MEG: Primal Waters was published in the summer of 2004. Steve’s fourth novel, GOLIATH, received rave reviews and was a big hit in Germany. Martin's Press/Tor Books and were runaway best-sellers in Spain, Mexico, Germany, and Italy, with the rights selling to more than a dozen countries.

His next novel, DOMAIN and its sequel, RESURRECTION were published by St. Steve’s second release, The TRENCH (Meg sequel) was published by Kensington/Pinnacle in 1999 where it also hit best-seller status. MEG hit every major best-seller list, including #19 on the New York Times list (#7 audio), and became a popular radio series in Japan. MEG would go on to become the book of the 1996 Frankfurt book fair, where it eventually sold to more than a twenty countries. Four days later his agent had a two-book deal with Bantam Doubleday. On September (Friday) the 13th, 1996, Steve lost his general manager's job at a wholesale meat plant. Steve sold his car to pay for editing fees. Working late nights and on weekends, he eventually finished MEG A Novel of Deep Terror. Struggling to support his family of five, he decided to pen a novel he had been thinking about for years.

Of Alten's singletons, Undisclosed ( 2017) hints that scientific discoveries, deposited at Roswell by UFOs, may in the Near Future threaten Homo sapiens, or not.Steve Alten grew up in Philadelphia, earning his Bachelors degree in Physical Education at Penn State University, a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Delaware, and a Doctorate of Education at Temple University. The Domain series beginning with Domain ( 2001) applies this tactic to prehistoric Religion, the secrets of one of which threaten the End of the World if they are revealed.

Alten has apparently claimed that his novels are "factions", a phrase which evokes not so much scientific credibility as conspiracy theories about hidden knowledge, here revealed. The tale, and its sequel, full of Scientific Errors and Pseudoscience shortcuts, clearly attempts to demonstrate the chthonic power of Horror in SF. (1959- ) US author who is perhaps best known for the Meg sequence, beginning with Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror ( 1997), which is premised on the survival of a megalodon, an extinct species of giant shark reputed to be the most powerful vertebrate predator (see Evolution) ever to exist.
